Dr. John W. Gibson has over thirty six years experience as a counselor, coach, consultant, mediator and facilitator. He combines extensive experience and broad skills with a coaching model in providing personal, couples, family, executive and corporate coaching and counseling. He has master's and doctoral degrees and is a graduate of Peer Resources, Inc. Personal Coaching Program, Corporate Coach University, a certified mediator and mediation trainer and a member of the International Coaching Federation.
John first began counseling in 1971 during the Veit Nam war at Kirk Army Hospital where he counseled returning service men and women, sometimes their spouses, and couples. Since then he has trained and worked in a wide variety of settings and added to his experience and skills.
John works with clients around a wide range of concerns and has special expertise around transitions and changes, personal and work relations and in skill development. He draws upon additional advanced training in conflict resolution and mediation where he became a certified mediation trainer to help clients become much more comfortable and skilled in resolving conflict. He draws upon both personal-focused and corporate-focused coaching training to help clients be more successful in both their personal and their work lives.
John views life as a classroom where we can grow stronger and wiser if we learn from our own experiences and from others. He especially likes to help clients develop the skills to put practice wisdom from life lessons.
Finally, John likes to form a working partnership with you. He has taught counseling courses to undergraduate students and can describe what and why he does what he does. In this fashion he helps clients come to understand themselves and others better and the dynamics of people interacting. He draws upon a range of counseling theories and skills depending on the clients strengths, weaknesses and concerns.
While John counsels and coaches adults of all ages part of his practice focuses on issues of the second half of life. John first worked with individuals and couples around pre and post retirement issues in 1971. For the past decade he has taught the popular televideo seminar "The 5 Rs of Successful Retirement" to Boeing Employees. Because so many of those attending have gone on to create several more meaningful chapters in their lives the seminar was renamed "Life by Design: Making the Next Chapter the Best Chapter" a few years ago.
In addition to individual and couple pre and post retirement coaching I will provide 6, or 10 hour seminars on "Life by Design: Making the Next Chapter the Best Chapter" for groups of any size.
John also provides "next chapter" coaching for people in all sorts of planned and unplanned transitions. Individually, as a couple, or in a group here are some of the benefits of retirement, next chapter and second half coaching.
Increasingly our work life and home life impact each other. I provide expert coaching with couples and families around major life changes, illnesses, transitions and challenges.
John draws upon decades of experience and extensive knowledge and training to offer counseling and coaching to individuals and couples. His goal is to assist you in improving your relationship with yourself and with others. John helps his clients remove blocks, change patterns and old habits, learn new skills and awarenesses. John is described by his clients as warm, creative, knowledgeable, involved and effective.
